SMALL DETAILS MAKE A DIFFERENCE…
Bowdoin Geneva referral home cleaners adhere to the highest quality cleaning standards.
That alone makes a huge difference.
The neighborhood of Dorchester is so densely populated and varied that it has several of its own districts. Some of these districts are residential, while others, like Bowdoin-Geneva, or more commercial. Formed by Bowdoin Street and Geneva Avenue, the community has dozens of ethnic restaurants and businesses, as well as plenty of community gardens and houses. If you plan on visiting Boston or Dorchester soon, then a jaunt through Bowdoin-Geneva would be worthwhile!
Here is everything you need to know:
Located within Dorchester, Bowdoin-Geneva is also called Bowdoin North or Mount Bowdoin and is framed by Columbia Road, Quincy Street, and Washington Street. Within this distinct commercial district, you can find several apartment buildings and low-income housing for families and seniors. Along Bowdoin Street, several businesses have opened throughout the years. Geneva Avenue is also lined with many establishments. These two streets are the reason the district is now called Bowdoin-Geneva.
The collective population of Dorchester is estimated to be around 100,000 people. Over 75,000 of those people are native-born, while over 35,000 are foreign-born. Dorchester has long been home to immigrant populations from Europe and, more recently, the Caribbean, Central, and South America. Within the Mount Bowdoin community, over 70 percent of the population is Black or African American. This group is largely represented by people with Caribbean ancestry, which is why you can find a lot of French and Spanish speakers in the area.
Bowdoin-Geneva is a commercial district in the middle of Dorchester, a neighborhood of Boston that is over 6 square miles large. In the past, Dorchester was separate from Boston and was founded by the Puritans from the original Massachusetts Bay Colony. Then, when Dorchester became a dissolved municipality, it became the biggest neighborhood in all of Boston and is often divided up into several communities by city planners.
Before the 1900s, Dorchester remained largely unsettled. Much of the land was rural, and there were only about 12,000 people. Once annexed in 1870, Dorchester’s population went up to 150,000 by the end of 1920. While it is nowhere near as populated as it was then, Dorchester is still one of the more densely populated neighborhoods of Boston.
Around 2017, the Bowdoin-Geneva neighborhood was marked for several large development projects that would help clean up the community’s image. Though gentrification is often seen as controversial, the area needed low-income housing, culture, and more job opportunities to grow. Senior housing, affordable housing, and more single-family housing were added while tailoring the price of the dwellings to the local demographics.
Since many residents in the Bowdoin-Geneva area are low-income, these developments allowed for those with a lower median income of around $42,000 to successfully purchase a home. The local government also wants to bolster culture by calling for more restaurants and cafes.
Today, Bowdoin-Geneva is a thriving community. Though it has had some setbacks, the Bowdoin-Geneva Main Streets (BGMS) association has come together to liven up the area. Now, there are a plethora of establishments serving up food and drink, as well as dozens of independently run businesses.
If you’re feeling hungry, do take a look at all the restaurants. On Bowdoin Street, you can find Bobby Fish Market, Chung Wah Chinese, Mythos Pizza, One Family Diner (a beloved cafe), Tropical Island Restaurant, among others. On Geneva Avenue, there is Neville’s Bakery and Restaurant, Minina’s Cafe, and Cape Verdean Taste. You can also find several clothing stores, grocers, hair salons and barbershops, and community service centers.
There are a few places to take a short walk in the area, including Geneva Cliffs and Mount Bowdoin Green. Bowdoin-Geneva is also close to Meeting House Hill, where you find Ronan Park. To the north is Ceylon Park.
Looking to get to Bowdoin-Geneva? You can use the Commuter Rail. Get off at Four Corners/Geneva and walk along Geneva Avenue. You can also utilize the bus routes in the area or use the MBTA Fields Corner station, as well.
Perhaps you’re a busy Bowdoin-Geneva parent, trying to juggle the kids’ dance recitals and soccer practice on top of vacuuming and doing the dishes at home. Or maybe you’re a business professional or CEO who doesn’t have the time to deal with dust and dirt when you return home from a long day at work. Or possibly you may have a disabled relative or elderly parent who could use a helping hand around the house.
