Braintree and its neighborhoods were first settled by Captain Wollaston in 1625 and were originally named Mount Wollaston. In 1635, more settlers came. Later, pieces of the land were split up by separate municipalities, such as Randolph, Quincy, and Holbrook through the late 1700s and 1800s.
Braintree has been the birthplace of many historical figures, such as Abigail Adams, the presidents John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams, General Sylvanus Thayer, and also John Hancock.

To the north of Braintree Highlands is gorgeous Pond Meadow Park. There are dozens of tree-lined paths to explore alone or with family.
