All domestic workers we partner with have numerous years of experience before we refer them to your house for professional cleaning services. If they’re not quick and meticulous, we do not refer them. Rest assured that all of the independent service providers we refer to you are same domestic workers that we would prefer to clean our own homes.
Many fascinating attractions in Boston are worth visiting. Most of these places are centered around the Downtown, but if you go slightly farther south, you will find Columbia Point, a tiny peninsula that juts out into Boston Harbor. On the northern end, you find the Old Harbor Park. There are also many historical buildings and exhibits to check out.
If you are looking for something to do during your visit to Boston, don’t overlook Columbia Point, especially if you love to learn.
With Columbia Point being home to UMass Boston and many different attractions about the American government, there are not many residents in Columbia Point. There are school dormitories—high-rise apartments—next to the Athletic Complex. There are also a few apartment buildings, but many of them are being replaced.
However, that doesn’t mean that you won’t see the area teeming with visitors from all over the world. With attractions like Harborwalk and the campus of one of the best universities in Boston, there are thousands of people visiting Columbia Point every single day.
There are several points of interest in Columbia Point:
Columbia Point connects to other amazing places in Boston as well, including South Boston, where you can find Castle Island and Carson Beach, and Dorchester. You can use the JFK/UMass station to get to almost anywhere in the city, or you can use the HarborWalk to connect to the Freedom Trail and see the rest of Boston from there.
Since Columbia Point is connected to Dorchester, its history is much the same as the rest of the area. Since the 17th century and well into the 19th century, the land was nothing but livestock pastures. Dorchester was uninhabited until the 1900s when land-filling began to develop an area called Columbus Park. During WWII, barracks were constructed on the landfill to house prisoners of war. Later, the barracks were converted into the Columbia Point Veterans Village. Another section of the landfill was used to construct a development of 1,500 apartments.
At that point, Columbus Park became known as Columbia Point.
In the 1960s, there was a movement by the locals to get the dump closed. In 1962, the city dump closed, and the Mile Road Dump—a private business—shut its doors in 1963 after the Massachusetts Supreme Court made the final judgment.
Then, in 1974, the UMass Harbor Campus opened up on Columbia Point. Since then, Columbia Point has developed. The edifices of many old buildings have been renovated and repurposed, allowing for the university and surrounding institutions to grow.
There are plenty of things to enjoy in Columbia Point today that will delight whoever joins you in the adventure. The main draw of Columbia Point would be the Boston HarborWalk, which runs 47 miles along the coastline. The portion that goes through Columbia Point was finished in 2015 and has been a popular attraction since then. You can follow the pathway north or south and connect to other sections of Boston.
Another popular landmark to see today would be Arts on the Harbor, an outdoor sculpture park. The pieces change regularly, so you never know what you might find!
There is also the noteworthy John F. Kennedy Presidential Library & Museum for bibliophiles and history lovers. Within the buildings is a vast archive of papers and documents about the life of John F. Kennedy. There are many exhibits within the museum portion, too.
A recent attraction is the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the United States Senate. Visitors can even sit in a full-sized replica of the Senate chamber and even take part in what is known as the “Vote of the Day.”
Want to get some fresh air? The John T. Fallon State Pier has stunning views of the bay and skyline. There is also the Dorchester Shores Reservation near Carson Beach.
Though most of Columbia Point is devoted to the University of Massachusetts Boston, there is plenty to see and do. You should spend a day or two checking out all the interesting attractions and the campus. Bring your walking shoes, too, since you won’t want to leave without strolling at least a little of the HarborWalk.
Perhaps you’re a busy Columbia Point parent, trying to juggle the kids’ dance recitals and soccer practice on top of vacuuming and doing the dishes at home. Or maybe you’re a business professional or CEO who doesn’t have the time to deal with dust and dirt when you return home from a long day at work. Or possibly you may have a disabled relative or elderly parent who could use a helping hand around the house.
When you’re searching for a dependable home cleaner in Columbia Point don’t look any further. You can rest easy by choosing Patriot Maids to refer the very best house cleaner for your family. All house cleaners are background checked, come with 2 to 3 years’ experience, and fully equipped to handle any cleaning task. You can arrive at home knowing that your house has been cleaned by a qualified team of professionals and will shine from top to bottom.
