HOW IT WORKS
SMALL DETAILS MAKE A DIFFERENCE…
Boston referral home cleaners adhere to the highest quality cleaning standards.
That alone makes a huge difference.
We only refer the highest rated domestic cleaners in the industry. All cleaning professionals we refer have had numerous years of experience before we refer them out to your homes. If they are not qualified and thorough, we do not refer them. Rest assured that all of the cleaning providers we refer out to clients are the same cleaners that we would want cleaning our own homes.
Found in Somerville, a smaller city on the outskirts of northwest Boston, is the landmark known as Davis Square. It is a point on the map where several streets converge—Holland Street, Day Street, Elm Street, Dover Street, Highland Avenue, and College Avenue. The name refers to the surrounding neighborhood as well.
You can easily visit Davis Square by taking the MBTA Red Line to Davis Square station. Once you depart the station, you will find tree-lined streets, shops, and loads of people. The area is full of students from various universities and has dining, nightlife, and much more to keep you entertained.
Because of the gentrification of the neighborhoods surrounding the MBTA Red Line, primarily around Tufts and Harvard University, the growth of Somerville and Davis Square in West Somerville was exponential. However, this has caused some tension between those who have recently arrived and those who have lived in Somerville for decades.
Presently, the area of Davis Square hosts several college students and young families. The neighborhood is largely White (around 70% in all of Somerville), and there is a small number of Blacks, Asians, and Hispanics.
Although Somerville itself has an industrial background, including being the birthplace of the confection Marshmallow Fluff, it is also home to art and entertainment. Davis Square, for instance, has been the heart of theater in Somerville. It is where you can find the Somerville Theater and the Museum of Bad Art. Davis Square is also where the Independent Film Festival of Boston is showcased annually.
Much of the history of Davis Square is tied to the growth of Somerville. Davis Square is named after Person Davis, who was a grain seller who moved into the region around 1850. His estate was near the intersection of Grove, Morrison, and Elm streets. After the Civil War ended, West Somerville saw a boom of new homes and residents. Railways were constructed to connect to the neighborhood, making it a popular area for commuters to call home.
In 1900, Davis Square received its first brick pavement. In 1914, the Somerville Theater opened up and hosted several burlesque shows and silent movies. Things seemed to be going well until the train tracks were rerouted in 1927, causing an economic slump that left Davis Square impoverished.
It took many years and a petition for the MBTA to create a stop a Davis Square MBTA Station before the area was able to reclaim its lost vibrancy. At the end of the 1990s, Davis Square started to gain more attention, received a budget for urban renewal, and by 1997 was named one of the “hippest places to live” in the United States.
There is more to this little patch of land than meets the eye. Every day, people are gathering in Davis Square, shopping, visiting the cafes and the gift shops, or just hanging out. You can find many independent retailers in the area, making it a popular place to find unique items.
