Kenmore Square referral home cleaners adhere to the highest quality cleaning standards.
That alone makes a huge difference.
For many years, Kenmore Square was known only as a doorway to the bustling Fenway-Kenmore neighborhood, where dozens of colleges and universities and businesses operate throughout the year. Most people knew equated Kenmore Square to the giant Citgo sign rising high above several buildings surrounding the area, but this place does have history. And today, more than ever, Kenmore Square is a popular hang out for all kinds of people.
If you are looking for some iconic Boston nightlife or want to see more of the Fens, then you need to see Kenmore Square as well. Here is everything you need to know to have an amazing visit:
Because Kenmore Square is often included in the whole neighborhood known as Fenway-Kenmore, knowing how many people live around the square is difficult to say. However, within the neighborhood there are around 41,000 people, meaning that the entire district is densely populated. Most of these residents are college students or young professionals who live and work close by.
Many of the residential buildings throughout Kenmore Square belong to colleges and universities. There are numerous apartment complexes alongside single-family homes. However, dwellings consisting of 20-29 units are the most abundant in this area.
Did you know that Kenmore Square has a place in pop culture as well? There are a couple of instances where it has been a star of lyrics. Gary Cherone, a rock singer from Extreme, has talked at length about the Kenmore Square music scene during the 1980s. Some of his memories are on the 2010 album called Take Us Alive. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones talk about The Rat, also known as The Rathskeller on Kenmore Square, in their song “I Want My City Back.” Lastly, the Dropkick Murphey’s mention Kenmore Square in their song “Blood.”
Kenmore Square is the eastern end of U.S. Route 20, the longest highway in the whole country.
In the beginning, long before there was even a place called Kenmore Square, the land was an uninhabited swap at the corner of the mainland, found where the Charles River started to widen the Back Bay. When the area was taken up by colonists in 1705, the muddy banks of the aptly named Muddy River became the town of Brookline. Up until the mid-1820s, the place was known as Sewell’s Point. It was where Brighton Road and Punch Bowl Road (now known as Brookline Avenue) intersected at Kenmore, which now connects to the western part of the mainland.
When Brighton merged with Boston in 1874, the boundary lines were redrawn to connect Back Bay to the newly formed Allston-Brighton neighborhood. Development of Kenmore Square, however, didn’t begin until after 1890, when the massive Back Bay landfill endeavor reached what became Kenmore Square as we know it today.
The development of streetcar lines along Beacon Street began in 1888 and passed through Kenmore Square towards Coolidge Corner. Eventually, this became the Green Line’s C Branch. Later, tracks were laid down along Commonwealth Avenue, forming what is known called the Green Line A and B Branches.
Before the 1960s, Kenmore Square was considered part of Boston’s “Auto Mile,” a strip that was famous for having more than 100 dealerships. The 1970s were a whole new era, when the Rathskeller, a punk-rock hangout, opened up. The Rat, as it was called, was where bands like the Police, R.E.M., and the Ramones were discovered.
At present, Kenmore Square is formed by a collection of buildings surrounding a section of land framed by Beacon Street, Deerfield Street, and Commonwealth Avenue. It is surrounded by Boston University residential buildings, hotels, restaurants, city parking buildings, and much more. It is also conveniently located between Kenmore MBTA and Blandford Street MBTA stations.
These days, Kenmore Square is undergoing some repair and updating to breathe some new life into the area. There are many stores around the Square worth visiting. From niche shops to high-class dining, Kenmore Square is the perfect place to stop and enjoy the Boston atmosphere.
Do you love comics? Head to Comicopia, which has been a part of Kenmore Square since 1989. Comicopia has over several thousand comic books and paperbacks for your perusal. New comics are brought in every Wednesday throughout the year, but you can also take a peek online at their inventory before arriving. The store also has some self-published books.
Love sports memorabilia? Then Kenmore Collectibles, another mainstay shop from 1988, is for you. Vintage coins and sports goods line the walls. You can find several valuable merchandise and souvenirs for everyone in your family—and maybe something special for yourself too.
When your stomach starts rumbling, Kenmore Square has great options. If you’re hankering for some Vietnamese, Pho Countryside Boston is highly recommended. Otherwise, India Quality, Boston’s top-rated Indian restaurant for 12 years in a row, is close by. If you want something to drink, head over to The Lower Depths Tap Room.
In short, Kenmore Square is worth visiting. It may have been underestimated in the past, but it now has something enticing for everyone.
Perhaps you’re a busy Kenmore Square parent, trying to juggle the kids’ dance recitals and soccer practice on top of vacuuming and doing the dishes at home.
