SMALL DETAILS MAKE A DIFFERENCE…
Packards Corner’s referral home cleaners adhere to the highest quality cleaning standards.
That alone makes a huge difference.
Many parts of Allston-Brighton have fascinating histories and old buildings. The neighborhood also attracts people from all over the world, for it has ethnic cuisines and events and music and wild events (like Allston Squirt Gun Day). One of the places within Allston that make for worthwhile exploration is Packard’s Corner. Not only is this section of the neighborhood replete with fantastic architecture, but there are also shopping opportunities and other hidden gems to uncover.
Packard’s Corner is a vague triangle shaped by Harvard Avenue, Gardner Street, Naples Road, and Commonwealth Avenue in the Allston neighborhood of Boston. Allston is a place of many small businesses, bars, restaurants, and apartment buildings. Between Packard’s Corner and Allston Street, you can find Brighton Avenue and the dozens of eateries serving up ethnic cuisine. Meanwhile, the adjacent Harvard Avenue has thrift stores, furniture stores, consignment shops, music stores, and much more. Both areas are very popular with adolescents and young adults.
Packard’s Corner is also in the middle of the Allston music scene. Surrounding the area are places where live music events are often held, including the Paradise Rock Club, Wonder Bar, O’Brien’s Pub, Brighton Music Hall, and Great Scott. There are also many recording studios in and around Packard’s Corner.
Allston is home to a large population of young adults who are attending the local colleges and universities. Not only is the population young, but it is also the main reason Harvard Avenue is as boisterous as it is. While this has caused some discontent among the long term residents, Allston continues to attract college students from near and far, and that has added to the large international population as well. If you visit Packard’s Corner in September, you might stumble across some apartment buildings with heaps of used furniture and other rubbish out front. This is an event called Allston Christmas when current tenants swap with the new tenants.
The name Packards Corner comes from the old Packard’s Sales Stable and Riding School that used to be located at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Brighton Avenue between 1885 and 1920. John D. Packard and his sons owned two large wooden buildings and a riding ring where people could receive lessons on Shetland ponies. There was also Victoria Stables, which was located where 50 Brighton Avenue now stands.
Later, the name Packard carried on when Alvan T. Fuller began the Packard Motor Car Company. He built the business at 1079-1089 Commonwealth Avenue between 1909 and 1930. The company was part of the more massive vehicle mall that ran from Kenmore Square all the way to Packard’s Corner. Albert Kahn, an architect from Detroit, designed the building that was constructed.
Up to the 1880s, Packard’s Corner was not as populated as other areas in Allston. Part of the reason was the proximity to Harvard Avenue, which was then known as the old Roxbury Highway. There was also a lack of transportation. Intensive development only began in the 1900s, when the electric trolley service started to operate along Commonwealth Avenue.
Heading over to Allston while visiting Boston is one of the best decisions you can make. Why? Because there is always something going on in Allston-Brighton and around Packard’s Corner. The neighborhood has plenty of things to do. Gather up some friends or family (or going solo is excellent, too) and check out the Corner of Brighton Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue. There are several great places to grab a bite to eat, including Tarboosh for excellent shawarma, JMP Fine Indian Cuisine, and LimeRed Teahouse, a bubble tea store.
Afterward, walk towards Harvard Avenue. There are retail stores, such as TJ Maxx and Urban Outfitters and Buffalo Exchange, to visit. Buffalo Exchange is highly rated for the quality and quantity of their used clothing. If you didn’t find anything to eat at the upper end of Packard’s Corner, then you can find something here. Along Harvard Avenue is Hanmaru, a place for awesome Korean, Sweet Kingdom, serving up all kinds of desserts, and White House Tavern for beer and American munchies.
You can access the neighborhood of Packard’s Corner easily. Take the MBTA Green Line B Branch to Packards Corner Station or Harvard Avenue Station. Bus route 57/57A and 66 also come through the area. Luckily, Packard’s Corner is highly walkable, so you should have no trouble finding whatever it is you are looking for!
Perhaps you’re a busy Packards Corner parent, trying to juggle the kids’ dance recitals and soccer practice on top of vacuuming and doing the dishes at home. Or maybe you’re a business professional or CEO who doesn’t have the time to deal with dust and dirt when you return home from a long day at work. Or possibly you may have a disabled relative or elderly parent who could use a helping hand around the house.
When you’re searching for a dependable home cleaner in Packards Corner don’t look any further. You can rest easy by choosing Patriot Maids to refer the very best house cleaner for your family. All house cleaners are background checked, come with 2 to 3 years’ experience, and fully equipped to handle any cleaning task.
